What is KAMBO?
The Power & Wisdom of an Ancient Medicine
I feel deeply honored to introduce you to this powerful medicine that has profoundly transformed my life.
Kambo is derived from the secretion of the Amazonian giant monkey frog, Phyllomedusa bicolor. It is a truly unique natural phenomenon, containing a complex combination of bioactive peptides that are known to support both physical and mental well-being.
This sacred secretion has been studied for decades, and its biochemical composition continues to fascinate researchers around the world. One of the pioneers in bringing scientific attention to Kambo was Vittorio Erspamer, an esteemed Italian pharmacologist from the University of Rome, who was nominated twice for the Nobel Prize.
Through his research, he identified Kambo as a remarkable chemical composition with potential applications that are unlike anything found in other amphibians. Since then, many additional studies and publications have expanded our understanding of this extraordinary substance.
Benefits & Traditional Perspective
The remarkable effects of Kambo are largely attributed to the bioactive peptides and neuropeptides present in its secretion. When introduced to the human body, these compounds are known for their therapeutic properties and their ability to support a wide range of physiological processes.
These peptides have been studied for their influence on multiple systems within the body. They are associated with supporting the gastrointestinal system (including peptides linked to satiety and metabolic regulation), the cardiovascular system (with properties such as antihypertensive and circulation-supporting effects), the immune system (including antimicrobial and immune-modulating activity), as well as the nervous system (through interactions with opioid peptides).
In the Amazon, Kambo is often referred to as the “Vaccine of the Jungle” — a traditional name that reflects its reputation for strengthening the body and supporting resilience against illness. Through its complex interaction with the body’s systems, it is believed to help fortify and protect, while promoting balance and vitality.
Indigenous tribes of the Amazon also respectfully refer to Kambo as “Hunting Magic,” honoring its ability to strengthen both body and spirit. It is known to increase energy and endurance, heighten sensory perception, and support a state of mental clarity and inner calm — helping shift attention away from the noise of everyday life toward the true essence of life, and into a deeper connection with oneself and the body.
Applications of Kambo
While Kambo isn’t classified as a “medicine” within the conventional Western paradigm, countless individuals have shared their experiences of its therapeutic effects. Kambo is known for its powerful analgesic properties, with some reports suggesting pain relief effects up to 4000 times more potent than morphine — yet without the addictive euphoria associated with opiates.
Individuals facing autoimmune conditions, including Lyme disease, have reported profound relief and revitalization following Kambo sessions. It has also been recognized for its supportive role in working with psychological challenges such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD. While these outcomes are not clinically proven, they reflect traditional therapeutic uses and lived experiences with this medicine.
In my own personal experience, Kambo has had a deeply transformative impact on my health. It supported the restoration of my thyroid function and allowed me to step away from hormone therapy after seven years — something that once felt impossible.
These applications reflect both traditional indigenous uses of Kambo and anecdotal reports from practitioners and participants. Kambo is not FDA-approved and has not been evaluated in clinical trials. It is recommended to consult with a qualified healthcare provider before participating in a Kambo ceremony.
The Kambo Experience: What to Expect
Kambo is applied through small, superficial points on the skin, often referred to as “gates,” allowing the secretion to enter the lymphatic system. Only the outermost layer of the skin is gently opened to create these entry points. A first session typically involves 2–5 gates.
Before the session, you will be guided to hydrate with water, helping prepare your body for the process.
Once the medicine is applied, the body begins to respond quickly. Within the first minute, you may feel a wave of warmth moving through your body, along with an increase in heart rate and a subtle pulsing sensation. Some people experience temporary tingling or numbness, especially around the lips, ears, or tongue. These sensations are natural and usually pass within several minutes.
This initial phase is often followed by a short period where the body may feel heavy or sensitive, sometimes similar to mild flu-like symptoms such as nausea or fatigue. For some, this includes a natural cleansing response (such as vomiting or a bowel movement). However, this is not required for the medicine to work and is not experienced by everyone.
Contrary to what is often portrayed online, the process is not dramatic when held in a safe and grounded space. With proper preparation, including hydration, the experience is typically contained, supported, and manageable.
As the process completes, many people begin to feel a sense of release, followed by deep relaxation. Some describe a state of clarity, lightness, or renewed energy. Within 30–45 minutes, most are able to return to their normal activities.
The deeper effects of Kambo often continue to unfold in the hours and days that follow, with some individuals noticing lasting shifts in their physical, emotional, and mental state.
